So apparently George Harrison was once upon a time in a band called The Beatles? Named after the Volkswagen? I dunno, never heard of 'em!
Anyway, this is a benefit concert he did for the Natural Law Party (look it up.) It kind of comes on the heels of a tour George did with Eric Clapton, in Japan in December a few months prior. The same band is used this night, sadly without Clapton but bringing in for this one night Mike Campbell, who is one of George Harrison's Traveling Wilbury's bandmates guitarists (of Tom Petty's The Heartbreakers.)
After this night on stage with George as the headliner, there never was another concert with his name on the ticket or the marquee outside, not until the memorial concert for him after his death over 10 years later (which, coincidentally, would take place on this very same stage at the RAH.) So this essentially is the final George Harrison concert ever.
It's an audience recording and isn't too bad. Look, if an an audience recording really bites, I would say so and I'd also say that I would be questioning myself if I decided to hold onto it, I'd probably just wanna throw it away and not care to ever waste my time listening to it again. This isn't one of those. This is really a good A grade recording that I do look forward to hearing again one day. Nice setlist and the band plays well together. Definitely an enjoyable listen!
